The Hunt for Satoshis

The Best Bitcoin and Ethereum Faucets of 2016

Disclaimer: The article was published over a year ago. Faucets sites were never in the habit of staying around for long. A lot has changed in bitcoin and faucets are nearly all gone. Most of the links below are dead now.

A Satoshi is the smallest fraction of a Bitcoin that can currently be sent: 0.00000001 BTC, that is, a hundredth of a millionth BTC. In the future, however, the protocol may be updated to allow further subdivisions, should they be needed. At the current exchange rate, 1000 Satoshi equals about 0.01 USD. Nevertheless, if the Bitcoin price keeps going up and up; every Satoshi also increases in value.

Currently, there are some ways to get Satoshis for free. Mostly by visiting a website, filling in your Bitcoin wallet address and solving a Captcha. This is called a Bitcoin faucet. These sites get traffic by paying out a percentage of their advertising income to their visitors.

So all you need to get some free Satoshis is a Bitcoin wallet. If you do not have one yet, the easiest way to get started is to download Jaxx. It is a well designed, easy-to-use wallet supporting Bitcoin and Ether. Or, alternatively, here is an overview of other major Bitcoin wallets.

Once you all set up with a Bitcoin wallet, you are ready to start grinding the faucets.
